Our Story

Hercules (Herco) grew up on a cattle farm in South Africa and Emily grew up in Melbourne. We met each other in the UK whilst backpacking around Europe. After our travels, Herco moved to Australia with Emily, and they married and had three children.

After a long weekend away to Phillip Island we saw an 18-acre property that had a vineyard for sale and like most decisions in our life, we were spontaneous, took a risk and bought it. We thought it was a great opportunity for the kids to grow up on a farm and near the beach. We knew nothing about the wine industry or how to manage a vineyard, so we spent the next 6 years doing up the property and learning the ropes of the industry. We were fortunate to have local wine ma.kers that were always willing to teach and guide us. For many years we sold the grapes, this allowed us to perfect the running of the vineyard.  We are excited that after many years of hard work we are finally launching our wine.

Silverwaters Vineyard overlooks Westernport Bay, where the water is known to shimmer shades of silver. It is located in San Remo, Victoria. The 7-acre vineyard was established in 1995 and has Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. The label was well known by locals and produced high quality wine for many years. We are excited to have a local  wine makers making the wine for us.  The cool climate wines are produced from our vineyard, where grapevines are grown in rich and fertile soil

Some years the yields are low, so we also have a Project series which is called Malusa Project. We have spent a lot of time visiting many cellar doors throughout Australia. Malusa Project is about sourcing from some of our favourite regions and collaborating with some great wine makers to bring you more varieties. Considering we have dragged our kids around to many cellar doors we figured they deserved a label named after them. Malusa is the first two letters of the girls’ names, Maisie, Lulu and Sage. We also collaborated with the talented Natalie Ex, who did the illustration for the Malusa Project label.

We have put many years of hard work into this business, so we hope that you love the wine as much as we do!
